Bioengineering Laboratory

CFDRC has a well equipped Bioengineering laboratory, a prototyping facility and a multi-disciplinary personnel skilled in both scientific and engineering, to carry out research projects in micro/nanosystems and medical devices. In the past, we have successfully conducted many projects funded by DoD, DoE, NASA, NIH, NSF, NIST, DARPA, HSARPA, and private industry.

Our  Bioengineering Laboratory is set up in compliance with FDA-mandated GLP and is used primarily for microfluidics, biodiagnostics, and medical-device design. The laboratory houses all needed cell culture equipment including Class II, Type A2 biosafety cabinets, incubators, freezers and a biohazard disposal facility. Microfluidic prototypes can be fabricated in PDMS using a plasma treater. Optical instruments available include a tunable UV-NIR laser, inverted epifluorescence microscope and high-speed, high-sensitivity B/W and color cameras. A PC controlled CHI618C potentiostat workstation is available for electrochemical experiments. Electronic test instruments including oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators and data acquisition instruments are also available. In-vitro flow loops can be set up with available peristaltic and syringe pumps, valves, gauges etc.  Research on bioaerosols is carried out using a cascade impactor, Nebulizer, Inertial Biosampler and other in-house equipment. A wide array of supporting lab equipment (meters, mixers/shakers, centrifuges) are also available.
