Genomics

Genomics is the study of gene sequences in living organisms and being able to read and interpret them. Illustrative examples of CFDRC’s work  include:

Nucleic Acid Isolation

CFDRC has developed a novel microfluidics based cartridge that fully automates the complex process of RNA/DNA isolation. Starting from harvested whole mammalian cells in a culture medium, the cartridge will lyse, capture, and isolate nucleic acid content for later analysis, in a fully integrated fashion with minimal user intervention. The cartridge harnesses microbead-based and electrokinetic techniques to improve performance efficiencies. In addition to higher yields and faster process times, losses and contamination are be minimized as a result of the miniaturization and automation. A novel and unique plastic laminate-based lab-card technology from Micronics is leveraged for low-cost microfabrication.
