Catheter Design & Analysis

Our technology is being used to characterize the performance of catheters, in-silico. During the design process, engineers are commonly faced with the challenge of reducing access recirculation (recirculation of processed blood back into the dialyzer system) and suction pressure (maximum pressure that develops in the system while in operation). In addition hemolytic rates must be maintained below 5% to secure FDA approval.

Through simulations, designers can estimate access recirculation, suction pressure, and the hemolysis index and rapidly sort through multiple catheter designs. Sample flow analysis and dialyzed blood tracking in a hemodialysis catheter are illustrated in the figure below.
