CFDRC is the leading provider of total engineering solutions for respiratory
device design and analysis. CFDRC has developed the simulation technologies
to model complex non-linear interactions of physical phenomena including
fluid flow, heat transfer, mass transfer, aerosol spray transport that
need to be well understood in the effort to design and build better pulmonary
delivery systems.
Simulation of Aerosol Transport in Inhaler Devices
More than half of the dispensed drug is lost by deposition within an inhaler.
CFDRC engineers routinely analyze and optimize drug delivery (minimize
deposition) of inhalers and accessories.

Simulation of Aerosol Transport
in Human Airways
A further significant fraction (30-50%) of a drug is lost by deposition
in the back of the throat. CFD-ACE+ is used to analyze the
throat deposition patterns for specific inhaler designs.
In-vitro Characterization of Inhaler Devices
Fully complementing the simulations, the CFDRC Biofluids lab is well-equipped
to perform experiments characterizing medical sprays and delivered dosage.
