Multi-Scale Solutions from Aerospace to Nanotechnologies.
Unified Flow Solver
As a result of a Small Business Innovation Research project supported
by AFRL, CFD Research Corporation and the Russian
Academy of Sciences developed a Unified
Flow Solver (UFS) for simulation of gas flows in the entire range
of Knudsen numbers.
The UFS is capable of automatically switching between a deterministic
Boltzmann solver and a continuum CFD solver depending on local gradients
of gas density, flow velocity, and temperature. Currently, the UFS is
being extended for multicomponent mixtures and molecular gases with internal
degrees of freedom. With these extensions, the UFS will be valuable for
many practical applications ranging from trans-atmospheric flights to
advanced material processing and semiconductor manufacturing.

Multi-Scale Computational Environment
Nanotechnology R&D today largely lacks a rational design approach.
CFD Research Corporation has developed a Multi-Scale
Computational Environment integrating CFD tools with Kinetic Monte
Carlo and Molecular Dynamics software to overcome R&D challenges in
nano-material manufacturing. The MSCF was demonstrated
for a plasma-assisted synthesis of vertically aligned carbon nanotubes
(CNTs).
MSCE can be delivered to clients as part of R&D projects.

Plasma Technologies
Weakly ionized plasma is a mixture of electrons, ions and neutral particles
driven by electromagnetic fields. CFD Research Corporation developed the
first
commercial software for simulation of plasma devices and processes
and accumulated considerable experience in plasma technologies.
