Vice President, Finance

This position reports directly to the CEO/President and assists on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to contracts and budget management, cost analysis, forecasting needs and the securing of funding sources.

RESPONSIBILITIES and REQUIREMENTS

  • Strategic leadership of financial health, costs and accounting goals for the enterprise as established in partnership with the CEO, including Board-level financial reporting, identifying and closing new funding sources and structuring external financial arrangements, ideally including licensing, joint ventures and spin-off opportunities.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to support the ongoing financial needs of a rapidly developing research company, including contracts support, working capital and reserve management, competitive costing and efficient administrative functions.
  • Collaboration and effective coordination with the technical managers to support them in cost proposals, pricing and contracts management and provide all fiscal reports including P&L, budget, balance sheet and other financial reports for facilitating profitable growth and strategic development of the business and organization.
  • Management and oversight of all activities related to contracts and subcontracts administration, accounting and finance, including administrative staff; presently about 10 persons, including staff succession and growth plans.
  • High-Energy, growth oriented, collaborative, motivating individual.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Deep experience in government contracting, including knowledge of FAR, DFAR and GSA and experience working with contracting officers and DCAA auditors.
  • Background in use of Excel, DelTek/CostPoint and database programs to facilitate internal accounting functions and development of team capabilities.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • A master’s or bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • Controller or Chief Financial Officer Level experience.
  • Five to seven years of financial experience and management experience with the day-to-day financial operations of an organization of at least 50 persons, in a direct government contracting business.
  • Experience in raising capital preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable.
