CFDRC has developed various innovative designs (Patent
Portfolio) and devices for gas
turbine combustion, rocket propulsion,
and biomedical applications. A unique
aspect of the CFDRC designs and prototypes is that they have been developed
by using extensive CFD and multiphysics modeling. This leads to highly
optimized designs, and few prototypes are necessary.
For manufacturing and testing of prototypes, CFDRC has an experienced
Computer Aided Design (CAD) staff with a variety of CAD modeling tools
available to them. This staff (together with the engineering staff) oversees
all the computer aided design work, the manufacturing of the prototype,
and the testing process. For biomedical applications, we have experience
and expertise in obtaining FDA approval for our designs and prototypes.
CFDRC has its own Engineering and Test facility, this facility
contains a complete array of tools and equipment sufficient for the majority
of development activities. This ensures timely results at competitive
costs. For highly specialized efforts, CFDRC has close working relationships
with the finest machine shops that support NASA MSFC and Redstone Arsenal
to guarantee the highest quality work.
In addition, CFDRC maintains well-equipped facilities
for experiments and testing. For specialized testing, CFDRC maintains
strategic partnerships with specialized companies around the nation. An overview of Prototype Testing
of Propulsion Devices is given here.
