Design of a Biodiagnostic Chip

As part of the DARPA's BioFLIPS program, the University of Cincinnati is developing a smart, disposable, plastic-based biochip for clinical diagnostic applications. Simulation-based analyses of various components and subsystems were performed to enable accurate sample metering and multiplexing, critical for biosensor performance. Simulations helped to select suitable pumping operating conditions for complete and symmetric dispensing, as well as enhanced biosensing. Project Director Prof. Chong Ahn says, "CFD-ACE+ simulations have been critical in understanding smart microfluidic biosystems and in optimizing overall performance."
