The Biochemistry Module in CFD-ACE+ is capable of simulating different
types of biomolecular bulk flow and surface reactions (analyte-receptor
interactions, enzyme catalysis). Following are some of the features of
the Biochemistry Module:
- Binding Kinetics
- Surface Reaction Models
- Bulk Reaction Models
- Enzyme Catalysis
- Microsphere (Beads) Based Immunoassay
Analyte transport occurs in the flow domain by convection (or advection),
forced drift (gravity, electrophoresis) and diffusion. It is also influenced
by the rate of surface reaction that locally alters the analyte concentration
adjacent to reacting surfaces and sets up concentration gradients. Mass
transport influences surface binding as it determines the residence time
of the analyte near the binding sites (or receptor sites) along the reacting
surfaces. Thus analyte mass transport and the surface binding processes
have a complex interdependence on each other, and depend on flow geometry,
analyte diffusivity, surface reaction rate constants, etc. The Biochemistry
Module accounts for these factors while simulating analyte transport and
surface reaction phenomena.
The Biochemistry Module has been validated and successfully used for
many Biomedical and Life Sciences
Applications.
