| The CFD-ACE+ Free Surface Module uses a proprietary
extension of Volume of Fluid (VOF) Methodology to simulate the hydrodynamics
and heat transfer for mixtures of two, immiscible, fluids, including the
effects of surface tension and gravity.
In addition to the flow and heat modules, the free surface module can
be coupled with the CFD-ACE+ modules for stress, strain, fluid
structure interaction, electromagnetic, electrostatic, and chemistry.
Applications include tank sloshing, pouring, filling, flooding, micro-devices,
inkjets, biological devices, coating, and capillary flows.
Capabilities:
- Hydrodynamics with
- Arbitrary Interface Shapes
- Surface Tension
- Moving grid
- Stress and Strain Analysis
- Newtonian/Non-Newtonian Viscosity
- Gravity
Thermal Transport
- Compressiblity (for either fluid)
- Dynamic contact angle
- Parallel computing capability
- e-mag module link
- e-stat module link
- chemistry module link
- One cell model (Hele Shaw)
Discriminators
- Can handle density ratios of up to 10000:1
- Can be used with unstructured grids (e.g octree) for complex geometries
- Provides two levels of surface reconstruction (SLIC & PLIC)
- Accurately determines surface tension effects including dynamic contact
angles
- Automatically controls the time-step for accuracy and speed
- Solves flow and heat transfer for both fluids
The CFD-ACE+ VOF module has been validated and is coupled
with other CFD-ACE+ physical models to provide true multiphisics
solutions to very complex problems.
