CFD Research has grown steadily and profitably every year since its inception in 1987 having executed over 1400 prime contracts. We are a two-time winner (1996 and 2006) of the prestigious Tibbetts Award for innovation. CFD Research has also won the Army National Achievement Award twice (in 2008 and 2010) for excellence in the SBIR program, and we maintain an excellent (≥ 80%) DoD Commercialization Achievement Index (CAI) score. Some of our significant commercialization successes were the spin-off of the CFD Research software products division along with 45 employees in 2004, and the spin-off of the SynVivo microfluidic cell-based assay product line in 2016. We have over 65 patents awarded or pending in the areas of biotechnology, combustion, propulsion, and materials (35+ of which have been out licensed).
Presently, CFD Research has a highly qualified staff (70% advanced degrees, 35% PhDs) of over 135 employees (40% with security clearances), and active collaborations with numerous research organizations. We have been cited in the success stories of NASA, Army, Navy, Air Force, DARPA, NIH and NSF; and are commended by industry partners for impacts made on their businesses. Our projects address challenging problems of national importance, e.g. Chem-Bio Protection, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Alternative Energy Sources, Low Emissions, Space Launch Systems and Missile Propulsion.
