Health and Insurance Plans

Group insurance benefits are available to all regular full-time employees and their dependents and are effective on the employee’s hire date.

Medical Insurance

CFD Research offers a traditional PPO medical plan administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama and includes:

  • Coverage for certain preventive care services, such as annual physicals and maternity care, generally at little or no cost to the employee.
  • Coverage for physician benefits, surgery, and hospital care.
  • Prescription drug coverage.
  • Coverage for mental health and substance abuse services, generally at little or no cost to the employee.

Dental Insurance

CFD Research offers dental coverage to help pay for dental care and orthodontia services.

Vision Insurance

CFD Research offers vision insurance to help pay for eye exams, frames every 12 months, and lenses or contact lenses.

Life, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, and Disability Insurance

CFD Research offers company-paid life insurance, accidental death & dismemberment insurance, and long-term disability insurance to all regular full-time employees to protect them and their families in the event of a death or serious injury. Employees also have the option to purchase additional life insurance for themselves, their spouses, or their children.

If interested, employees have the option to purchase voluntary short term disability coverage to pay 60% of an employee’s weekly earnings in the event of disability.

Flexible Spending Accounts

CFD Research offers a health care flexible spending account and a dependent care account to allow employees to pay for eligible health care costs (most out of pocket expenses) and dependent care expenses (including child and elder care services) using pre-tax dollars, which helps reduce income taxes.

Retirement Plans

CFD Research offers two plans that are designed to build an employee's retirement nest egg while enjoying significant current and ongoing tax benefits.

Retirement Savings Plan / 401(k)

CFD Research offers a 401(k) plan for all regular part- and full-time employees. Under this plan, an employee may elect to defer a portion of their salary to be deposited into a self-directed retirement account. These dollars are deducted on a pre-tax basis. Eligibility for this plan begins at the start of the next quarter following six months of employment. Additionally, CFDRC matches a percentage of employees’ deferrals to help grow their savings.

Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)

CFD Research is a partially employee-owned company and offers an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) to eligible employees. All contributions into the ESOP are made at the Company’s discretion. Contributions are made on an annual basis and are divided among the accounts of participants. The annual contribution percentage is based on CFDRC’s yearly performance.

Paid Time Off

CFD Research provides Paid Personal Leave (PPL) ranging from 14 to 24 days per year, dependent upon length of service at CFDRC. Time off is accrued bi-weekly until they reach the accrual maximum. PPL is to be used for almost all paid time off occurrences.

CFD Research employees receive nine paid holidays per year, seven company-scheduled standard holidays and two floating holidays. The floating holidays are prorated for new employees.

Employees receive time off with pay for jury duty, temporary military service, and bereavement leave.

Tuition Reimbursement Plan

CFD Research encourages the growth and educational advancement of its employees. Employees can pursue online and in-class training that is vital to their current job or work toward completing a relevant degree program. Tuition reimbursement is provided for full-time regular employees who meet the criteria.
